East Hagbourne Park

No May Day demo for me. Instead Thomas and I explored East Hagbourne Village park. It is very easy to find - just off the B4016, the New Road, along Great Mead. The turning onto this little street is directly opposite Hagbourne Garage and on the left hand side if you are driving from Didcot. There is space for a couple of cars if you are driving and the park is a little further on your left.

Use this Google map I made for YOU to locate East Hagbourne Park and tell you how to get there from where you are.

The park itself is set at the near side of a good sized recreational field. The sign outside the park states that it is intended for children under 12 but it is clear from the contents of the overflowing bin that after bedtime it frequented by older children. Even so, the park has everything in it to keep my son occupied for over an hour.

There are two slides - one set on a big artificial hill, plenty of climbing equipment and my son's personal favourite - a fireman's pole. In addition to 4 swings (2 for older children and 2 for babies/ toddlers) there is also one of these:

Thomas is just the right size for all the equipment, which was all in great working order. The roundabout is a little bit heavy, small and quite slow - more suited to younger children.

But WAIT!! What happens if you or your child should need the loo? Have no fear, the Fleur is here! They have generously agreed to allow parents with small children use their w/c.

The local pub is the Fleur de Lys.  The landlord and lady allow children to use their w/c

There is also a Community Shop, run by volunteers. Opening times Monday - Friday 9.00 - 5.30 and Saturday mornings 9.00 - 12.30.

There is a geocache in East Hagbourne. It is on the Main Road - at the end of the road you will see the church (Church Close). We attempted to find it but in our inexperience were unable to locate it:(

East Hagbourne also has a primary school - which is also used by the children from West Hagbourne.

Other interesting things about East Hagbourne: St Andrew Church is featured in Simon Jenkins' '1000 Best Churches' and has some excellent 14th century stained glass windows and a 13th century font. The church is usually open as it has cctv.
